Ledama Olekina: It is time for ODM to wake up and claim power
By Emmanuel Rono, March 27, 2026Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has urged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to intensify nationwide efforts and actively seek votes from all corners of the country.
Speaking during the ODM delegates convention held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Jamhuri Park in Nairobi, Olekina said the time for the party to have a common focus for the party politics and the future positions they need is now.
He said claiming leadership requires action, not just talk, and therefore, he called on ODM leaders to personally visit all regions to win the confidence of voters.

“Leo nataka kuzungumzia wanachama wa ODM. Muda wa kucheza umekwisha; sasa ni lazima msunguke kote nchini na kuhakikisha kuwa madaraka mnayosema mnayotaka yametimizwa,” Ledama said.
Loosely translate “Today I want to speak to ODM members. The time for playing around is over; now you must mobilise across the entire country and ensure that the power you claim you want is secured,” Ledama said.
Register Kenyans as voters
Ledama emphasised that the party must reach out to all Kenyans, including those aged 17 and above, in a bid to consolidate power.
He said that it was time for the members to speak the language of making the party strong and well known in every part of the country.
“Mimi ninawaambia hivi, watoto ambao wako shule wa miaka kumi na saba na nane wakuje chama tukule chungwa wote,” Ledama noted.

Ledama emphasised the importance of grassroots mobilisation, noting that educating villagers is key to ensuring supporters understand the party’s agenda for taking power.
He said by educating people locally, the party ensures that village supporters fully understand their vision for leadership.
“Today, after this meeting, please go and have a meeting with them through the grassroots mobilisation for them to understand that the ODM party needs power,” Ledama said.
Ratification of Oburu
This comes following the ratification of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga as the ODM party leader following a decisive National Delegates Convention (NDC) held at Jamhuri Park on Friday, March 27, 2026.

“The National Delegates convention hereby ratifies Senator Oburu Odinga as the national party leader of the Orange Democratic Party,” Wanga announced.
