ODM delegates ratify Oburu as party leader
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) delegates have ratified Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga as the party leader following a decisive National Delegates Convention (NDC) held at Jamhuri Park.
The convention held on Friday, March 27, 2026, also ratified significant leadership changes, including the removal of Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as the party’s deputy leader.
In the national convention held at Jamhuri Park in Nairobi, the national chairperson of the ODM Party, Gladys Wanga, read the resolution of the ratification of the leadership of the party in which she officially announced the ratification of Oburu as the party leader.
The high-stakes gathering, attended by delegates from across the country, marked a pivotal moment for ODM as it seeks to consolidate its leadership amid internal divisions and shifting political dynamics.
Delegates overwhelmingly backed Oburu’s leadership, affirming confidence in his ability to steer the party forward during a period of heightened political activity.
The National Delegates convention hereby ratifies Senator Oburu Odinga as the national party leader of the Orange Democratic Party,” Wanga announced.

After his ratification, the party leader received the instruments of power to steer the party. The convention at Jamhuri Park comes at a time when ODM has been grappling with internal factionalism, with rival groups laying claim to the party’s direction and legitimacy.
Friday’s resolutions are therefore seen as an attempt by the mainstream leadership to assert authority and bring clarity to the party’s chain of command.
Osotsi dismissed
The endorsement of Oburu has been seen as a move to reshape ODM’s internal power dynamics, potentially influencing its future strategies and alliances. The leadership changes are also expected to have ripple effects across the broader opposition landscape.
As ODM moves to implement the resolutions passed at the convention, attention now shifts to how the party will manage dissenting voices and maintain unity ahead of upcoming political engagements, with a resolution already made to oust Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi as the deputy party leader.

The decision to drop Osotsi from the deputy party leader position signals a major shake-up within the party’s top hierarchy. While the reasons behind his removal were not formally detailed during the convention, insiders indicated that the move reflects broader efforts to realign the party’s leadership structure and strengthen internal cohesion.
