Kingi: The new opposition needs to pick manual from Raila
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has laughed off the current opposition politicians, slamming them for forgetting to pick up the manual to keep the government in check when Raila Odinga abandoned the role.
Speaking at an empowerment event in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, this Saturday, September 6, 2025, the Speaker laughed off their constant criticism of the government from the politicians despite the overwhelming evidence of the progress under William Ruto’s administration.
“We were used to strong opposition, which was under Raila. He is now working with Ruto. He left, and he is in broad-based, but the mistake he made that has left the opposition confounded is that he left with the manual, and they are now confused. The manual, which they would put to good use, is not with them,”
“It is the reason they are opposed to everything,” he stated.
The former PAA party leader specifically cited the opposition’s objection to the commemoration of victims of police brutality and citizens’ empowerment as a case in point.
Wantams chants
“We have people who want to contest for the presidency but do not know why they want to do so. “If you ask them, they say Wantam,” he jibed.
“It is why every weekend we are at grassroots to help citizens to uplift their lives. They are the enemies of progress. They are your enemies also, as they don’t want you to uplift your livelihoods,” he said.

As opposition, we want constructive opposition. It cannot be that Ruto is 100 percent wrong. Those people, some of them were in government, and they contributed nothing,” he added.
Ruto reforms
While lauding the several developmental projects under Ruto’s regime, Kingi hailed the administration for enabling the implementation of several crucial initiatives, like reducing food prices and reforms in healthcare under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
According to Kingi, Ruto has successfully delivered on facets that his predecessors failed to deliver.
“The founding father never did that. Kibaki never did it, but Ruto did it. Now if someone tells you that Kenya is on a bad trajectory, he is insane,” he added.
On his parting shot, the coast leader challenged the opposition brigade to get a better policy to stand a chance of unseating the president come the 2027 polls.
“One term is never a policy. Lay down better policy and come face Ruto with something tangible and policies that you can speak of,” he stated.
