Kindiki mourns passing of MP Hamisi Denar

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has mourned the late nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Denar Joseph Hamisi, who passed away on Saturday morning, December 6, 2025.

Kindiki, who taught the late MP at the University of Nairobi School of Law, conveyed his condolences in a heartfelt message shared on X.

“Saddened to learn of the passing away of my former student at the @uonbi School of Law, nominated MP Joseph Hamisi Dena,” Kindiki wrote on his X dated December 7, 2025.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and with the people of Kwale as we mourn his untimely death. May his soul find rest in eternity.”

This comes as Kenya was plunged into mourning on Saturday, December 6, 2025, following his sudden death.

The 56-year-old legislator, who represented the Amani National Congress (ANC), died in a road traffic accident in Nairobi, prompting an outpouring of tributes from national leaders.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula formally announced the MP’s passing, describing him as a humble and committed servant of the nation. “It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of our colleague, Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who left us this morning,” Wetang’ula said.

He highlighted Hamisi’s impactful work in the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities.

“His extensive service in both the public and private sectors before joining Parliament stands as a testament to his lifelong devotion to Kenya,” he added, extending condolences to his family and the people of Kwale County.

Senate Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi also expressed deep sorrow. “The demise of Hon Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, this morning has left us all shocked and devastated,” he wrote. “Born in Kinango and a key member of the Coast Parliamentary Group, Hon Denar served in his nominated capacity with distinction and dedication.”

Legacy of service

Born in Kinango, Kwale County, Hamisi built a distinguished career across various sectors before entering Parliament, where he became known as a bridge-builder and advocate for the Coast region.

Kingi praised his contributions to legislation, oversight and development, noting, “On my own behalf and that of the Senate, I send our most heartfelt condolences to Hon Denar’s family, the people of Kinango and Coast region, and Kenyans at large for this immense loss. May God keep his soul in eternal peace.”

Speaker Wetang’ula announced that a parliamentary team led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Party Owen Baya will work with the family to organise his final rites. Tributes continue to pour in as the country remembers a legislator defined by humility, dedication and service.
