Kimani Ngunjiri: Some UDA leaders betrayed me in 2022
Former Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has come out to blame a section of leaders drawn from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for being behind his parliamentary loss in 2022.
While speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Monday, November 11, 2025, Ngunjiri, who lost the Bahati seat to Jubilee’s candidate Irene Njoki, said that some leaders within the UDA party never wanted him to win and were working behind his back to ensure he did not succeed in retaining his seat.
Ngunjiri went on to express his frustration, stating that after working tirelessly alongside those who later betrayed him, they managed to secure the Nakuru gubernatorial seat, the senatorial seat, the majority of MPs, and all MCAs.

However, when it came to him retaining the Bahati seat, all hell broke loose, and a Jubilee candidate won over him.
He wondered how he could lose the seat despite helping the party win all the other key positions in the county, saying that it simply did not add up.
“Something happened which I don’t like talking about more because it is something which has passed or passed. But something went wrong. Because the same group I was working with were behind me because they never wanted me because I spoke. I talk about what I think. So they don’t like that; they played me, we with them in the UDA. But they were still praying some games behind me.” Ngunjiri said
On whether his relationship with President William Ruto deteriorated after the incident, Ngunjiri said he had no personal issues with the Head of State and that they remained good friends.
However, he admitted that he had several dissatisfactions with the president, which he chose not to discuss on national television.
His political party
He further stated that after the incident, he decided to leave the UDA party, noting that he was the first person to exit the ruling party and form his own outfit dubbed the Future Party.

He added that he is currently working to revamp it, promising that by December, it will have a new name, symbol, and internal structures.
After losing the Bahati seat, Ngunjiri was later appointed to a Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) position.
However, his tenure was short-lived after the court declared the appointment unconstitutional, forcing him, along with others affected, back into the political cold.
