Kiambaa MP John Njuguna KaWanjiku has warned Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders against pushing for negotiations over the Deputy President position, saying the political direction toward the 2027 General Election is already taking shape.

Speaking on Friday, February 13, 2026, his remarks centred on coalition politics, loyalty, and expectations from partners in the current administration.

He spoke from a position of loyalty to the current leadership, arguing that the presidency is already settled and warning critics that challenging it will require enormous political energy, strategy, and public support in the coming years.

The lawmaker also told supporters that the Deputy President’s position was part of earlier political agreements, insisting that it should not be reopened for debate by ODM seeking advantage ahead of the next election cycle.

He framed his remarks around unity within the ruling side and urged partners to avoid distractions that could weaken political planning and service delivery before the next national contest.

“Kama kuna kitu inaweza tutoke kwa hii serikali na hio muungano ni hio kiti ya number mbili. Tunaambia ODm warelax, tukiwa broadbased tuwe hatuko broadbased, viti mbili zishaenda in 2027. Kiti ya president ishaenda na William Ruto, ambaye amejipanga hapo na ni rais. Nawaambia wale wa opposition kama mnashindana na president William Ruto mko na kibarua kubwa ya kufanya.” KaWanjiku stated.

Kawanjiku insisted the Deputy President position was agreed earlier and cannot be renegotiated ahead of 2027 elections.

Wako na Kibarua kubwa sana, kiti ya rais we are not negotiating lakini tunaambia rais pia yeye alikuja hapa mlima kenya akatuomba kura na tukampea kura, kiti ambacho tulinegotiate ya kwana ni kiti cha naibu wa rais ambaye ni proffessor Kithure Kindiki. So waende juu, waende chini, waende kando hatuwachilii,” the MP stated.

KaWanjiku singled out the Deputy President position held by Kithure Kindiki as one of the key outcomes of those negotiations, saying it should be protected from political pressure and public contestation.
