The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader, Oburu Odinga, has made sentiments seen as a change of tune over the party’s decision to agree to form a pact with President Ruto’s side in the preparations for the upcoming general elections.

Speaking while addressing the members of the National Executive Council and the press in Mombasa on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the Siaya senator said that the ODM party is not in a hurry to be aligned in a political faction either supporting the reelection or removal from office of President Ruto in the 2027 elections.

“We agreed as a party that we are not in a hurry to say one term or two terms. We are strengthening our party to prepare ourselves for negotiations. First, we shall start with our current partners, and as we move on, if we don’t agree, we move on to negotiate with other partners, and if we don’t agree with any, we go alone as ODM Party,” Oburu said.

10-point agenda

In what has appeared as a change of tune, the ODM party leader has insisted that the party is in the broad-based government to drive the ten-point agenda that was agreed upon between the president and the late former prime minister Raila Odinga.

Previously, the ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga had confirmed that the party’s support for Ruto was unwavering amid uncertainty over ODM’s stand after the demise of its figurehead, Raila.

Speaking during a rally dubbed Linda Ground Kakamega on Sunday, January 18, 2026, Oburu cited support for the broad-based government and indicated that ODM would share the government with President Ruto’s side in 2027.

Oburu and other party officials maintained that ODM’s position in the broad-based government, which Raila agreed with President William Ruto, was assured ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“As we speak with the rest, we shall talk and make sure that the biggest party gets its rightful share in the government. We entered this government through the door, and we shall enter the next one through the door, and we shall negotiate our rightful share. We want to share power in the future,” Oburu stated.

All eyes are now on the ODM party as it holds a National Executive Council meeting to see the next move the party is going to take following the party leaders’ remarks.
