Kalonzo: Ruto stands no chance of re-election in 2027
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that President William Ruto has no chance of winning a second term in the 2027 elections. He made the bold statement on Sunday, February 1, 2026, during a church service at ACK Gitugi in Murang’a County, where opposition leaders gathered in a show of unity.
Kalonzo addressed the congregation directly, criticising Ruto for arrogance and threats.
“Disorder has been the order of the day. Yaani kutukana viongozi wenzako. Kuwatukana tu. Matusi. Nakujipiga kifua. Ukijipiga kifua kusema utashinda na kura millioni mbili millioni tatu. And you know the truth as Fred has said. The truth, is as we speak now, William Ruto has no chance of second term. That is the truth. Ukweli ndio huo,” Kalonzo said.
Ruto has repeatedly called the united opposition people without plans. He has described them as visionless, focused only on propaganda, tribalism, and division rather than development or policies for Kenyans.
In recent speeches, he challenged them to present real agendas instead of empty rhetoric. Ruto has also stated that he will win with a wide margin.
In January 2026, during a UDA meeting, he said he aims to secure victory by two to three million votes. He contrasted this with his narrow 2022 win of about 200,000 votes and claimed a broad coalition, including possible ties with ODM, would deliver the landslide to unite the country.

Opposition signals unified resistance
Kalonzo dismissed those boasts outright. He questioned where Ruto would get the votes and accused government extremists of plotting to avoid defeat. The former vice president stressed that the opposition’s gathering in Murang’a proves the opposition’s unbreakable unity.
“In fact, the way we are seated here, its a clear testimony kwamba if shetani ataingilia katikati yetu, there is no way William Ruto will become president next year. We even know, zote ambao wale ambo wanapanga the extremists in his government, trying to advise how ata kama wakishindwa they will not accept,” Kalonzo said.
“Tukiwa hapa kanisani Reverend, tukubali tuseme we know you are even planning tutakushinda na utakatalia pale. Now, this is not ordinary election. This is a Gen Z-inspired revolutionary election.”
The Murang’a church gathering also featured sharp criticism from former Attorney General Justin Muturi, who questioned President William Ruto’s links to foreign individuals associated with disputed elections across Africa.
Separately, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa warned that the opposition would not accept a repeat of the 2022 election, citing the failure of Smartmatic-linked technology in Uganda and urging the IEBC to address concerns ahead of 2027.
