Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and Digital Economy William Kabogo has urged the people of Mt Kenya region to ease their antagonism toward the government.

He cautioned that continued hostility could obstruct the successful rollout of vital development projects in the region.

Kabogo made the remarks on Sunday, January 26, 2025, after attending a Covenant Renewal Service at PCEA Mukuyu Parish in Ruiru. The CS emphasized the need for residents to support the government and create an environment conducive to development.

The new CS reminded the people of Mt. Kenya that he is one of their own and understands their concerns. However, he stressed the importance of allowing the government to deliver its mandate without unnecessary interruptions.

“What we are saying as people from this region because this is where I come from. I have no other place, this is my home. We should be cognizant of the fact that the government should serve us. We must allow the government to serve us,” Kabogo stated.

The CS criticized leaders and individuals who were previously in government but are now inciting hostility towards the current administration. He questioned why such leaders did not provide alternative solutions to the people earlier and encouraged the region to move forward rather than dwelling on political grievances.

“Kama wewe unaniambia ati ‘haungechukua kazi sababu ya ii serikali,’ mbona hukukuja nyumbani uniambie tutafanya nini? I am called to serve the people of Kenya, I am not called to serve the people of Kiambu,” he said.

Focus on development

Kabogo assured residents that his focus as the CS for ICT is on serving the entire nation, not just his home county of Kiambu. He urged the people of Mt. Kenya to focus on building a collaborative relationship with the government to ensure ongoing projects, such as road construction, are completed successfully.

“The government should serve every Kenyan. Let’s give the government time to work. Sasa hivi kuna barabara inajengwa. Tukae wazuri ili miradi ifanyike,” he noted.

He also called on the region to avoid premature political campaigns and focus on unity and development instead. Kabogo warned against the distraction of the 2027 elections, urging residents to prepare wisely without resorting to unnecessary noise and politicking.

“Siasa ya 2027 iko mbali. Sisi watu wa mlima we should wake up, tujipange, tusikae tu kwa kelele,” Kabogo stated.
