Gachagua explains why he won’t challenge DCP mini poll losses in court
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed any possibility of challenging the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP)’s losses in the November 27, 2025, by-elections.
Speaking on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, during an interview with a local TV station, Gachagua said his DCP party performed far better than its critics expected and proved it is a rising national force.
DCP stunning opponents
The former Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) further said that DCP, which is barely seven months old, stunned its detractors by clinching three out of four MCA seats, despite what he described as violence, voter suppression, bribery, and well-coordinated attempts to frustrate his candidates.
“Personally, where I had candidates for DCP, I am not going to court. I had five candidates, one in Magarini, and we performed well; we were credibly second. Despite the irregularities, I think we performed exceptionally well, and I am happy with the outcome. I had a candidate in Purko ward in Kajiado County, a seat previously held by ODM. UDA was number one, and we came very close, and ODM was a distant third,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua went ahead to note that in Narok Town, despite chaotic scenes that “made the by-election almost impossible”, DCP still clinched victory.
The former DP said the party also pulled an upset in Kariobangi North, Nairobi, beating both UDA and ODM in a cosmopolitan ward where he claims many expected them to fall flat.
“In Narok Town, despite the violence, voter suppression, voter bribery, and making it almost impossible to carry out the by-election, DCP won. Again, we beat UDA, ODM, and other parties in Kariobangi North, in Nairobi, a cosmopolitan area. We also did very well in Kisa East in Khwisero constituency in Kakamega County, and I think ODM was number 10 and UDA number nine, as we emerged victorious,” he said.

National outlook
Gachagua also used the results to fire back at critics, including President William Ruto and his allies, who have branded DCP a tribal outfit.
“DCP was just formed seven months ago; it is a young party, but out of the four by-elections, we won three. To the shame of our detractors, including William Ruto and others who label our party as tribal, we secured victory in Khwisero, which is over 600 km from the mountain region. These by-elections have demonstrated DCP’s national outlook and growing acceptance across Kenya,” Gachagua said.
