Third Way Alliance Party of Kenya leader Ekuru Aukot has indicated that he would support a planned demonstration set to take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, which is supposedly going to protest the increasing fuel price in the country.

In a message posted in a conversational style on his X handle on Friday, April 17, 2026, the party leader has seemingly mobilised the citizens to go to the streets due to what he has described as the unbearable prices of fuel among ordinary Kenyans.

“Wakenya wenzangu, hamjambo? Kama hatutakunywa mafuta kwa bei nafuu, wacha tukunywe tear gas ya bure hapo Jumanne, Aprili 21, 2026. “Ama vipi?” Aukot stated.

Increasing social discontent with fuel costs

Aukot’s statement has come amid controversy over increased fuel prices, resulting in increased cost of transport, food prices, and expected inflation in general.

According to the Third Way Alliance leader, the cost of living has become unbearable, and the citizens should show their discontent by engaging in peaceful demonstrations.

Opposition threatens mass action

The statement from Ekuru Aukot comes following the United Opposition’s seven-day ultimatum to address several concerns in the energy sector, failure to which they have threatened with nationwide mass action.

Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called on the president to immediately instruct the National Assembly Speaker to convene an urgent special sitting within the next seven days.

Gachagua warned that if the government and the National Assembly fail to act on these demands within the stipulated timeframe, the opposition will issue further directions to Kenyans, potentially triggering nationwide protests aimed at forcing President Ruto’s administration to respond.

The question now lies in whether the scheduled Tuesday, April 21, 2026, protests will actually take place as scheduled and how the organisers of the protests and the authorities will control the increasing public tension over fuel prices.
