Dorcas Gachagua: The lowest position I could contest is presidency, not Woman Rep
Dorcas Rigathi, the spouse of the former impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has dismissed claims that she is planning to vie for a Woman Representative seat, saying that the least position she could go for is the presidency.
While speaking during an interview on the Obinna TV podcast on Sunday, March 8, 2026, the recently ordained reverend further clarified that she has no political interests and that her main focus is helping disadvantaged members of the community, such as widows, orphans, and people living with disabilities.
“If I were to go for any seat, it would be the presidency. How can I vie for a woman rep seat, really?”
She added that her current focus is to preach the gospel and reach out to the downtrodden, as well as champion the welfare of the boy child, an issue she says she is passionate about.
“I don’t think if I have ambition in that area, I have work to do, and a lot of it, that is for the widow and the people with disabilities,” Dorcas Gachagua said.
According to her, preaching the gospel and serving vulnerable members of society are the greatest gifts God has given her, and that is what she wants to focus on rather than getting involved in the murky waters of politics.
Gachagua’s remarks

Her remarks come just days after the former deputy president himself heaped praise on her during her ordination as a reverend, highlighting her passion for clerical work. Gachagua went on to reveal that from every income the family earns, he and his sons ensure that 10 per cent is given to her as a tithe.
He recalled that even in 2022, when nearly every coin he earned was being used to finance the heated political campaigns, he never defaulted on giving a tithe. He said that despite the financial pressures during the campaign period, the family always made sure they contributed to support her clerical endeavours.
Gachagua’s son’s entry into politics

The family of Rigathi Gachagua has largely kept a low profile, only appearing in public during major political events.
However, the DCP Party leader once hinted during an interview that he might allow his sons to venture into politics in the future, with one remaining in Nyeri politics and the other potentially vying for a parliamentary seat in Nairobi.
