Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hosted businessman and political strategist Jimi Wanjigi at his Wamunyoro residence, saying the two held further consultations on what he described as the country’s “liberation” journey.

In a statement shared after the meeting on July 21, 2026, Gachagua said the discussions were part of ongoing consultations with leaders and stakeholders as the opposition continues to chart its political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“I had the benefit of a further enriching and informative consultation with businessman and political strategist Jimi Wanjigi at the Wamunyoro residence today,” Gachagua said.

The key aim of the meeting

He added that the consultations remain critical to the opposition’s agenda.

“The journey for the liberation of our country is a tough one and every opinion and advice is crucial. But we shall get there. It is a matter of when, not if. Consultations continue. God bless Kenya,” he said.

The meeting comes as Gachagua has intensified engagements with opposition leaders, political allies, professionals and interest groups following the launch of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which he has positioned as a key vehicle for challenging President William Ruto’s administration in the next election.

Gachagua, who is currently observing a 45-day retreat from public rallies following his impeachment ruling, described the engagement as part of broader consultations aimed at shaping Kenya’s political future.

The latest talks with Wanjigi add to a series of high-profile consultations that Gachagua has been holding from his Wamunyoro home, which has increasingly become a meeting point for opposition figures.

Gachagua has repeatedly asserted that the opposition is building a broad-based movement to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration, insisting that consultations will continue across the country.

Wanjigi’s recent visit to Wamunyoro

The July 21, 2026 visit comes exactly three weeks after his other visit on July 1, 2026, which is part of wider efforts by opposition figures to consolidate political forces and resources in preparation for a potential showdown with Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.

This has intensified speculation over early opposition coordination ahead of the 2027 presidential election against President William Ruto.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) added that the discussions touched on the formation of what he termed the country’s sixth administration, emphasising the need for inclusive input from political, business, and governance experts.

“The liberation cause of our country and the formation of the sixth administration are so critical that we must get views from all,” he stated.

Gachagua has also stepped up nationwide political consultations since leaving government, positioning himself as one of the key figures seeking to rally opposition leaders behind a single presidential bid.

The Wamunyoro meeting adds to a series of consultations Gachagua has been holding with political leaders, professionals and influential Kenyans as he works to shape what he says will be Kenya’s next administration.
