Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he and his sons have, for years, set aside ten per cent of their earnings to support Pastor Dorcas Gachagua’s ministry.

The contribution, he said, has been a consistent act of commitment to her spiritual work and to the values that guide their family.

The remarks were made during an event held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, where Pastor Dorcas was ordained to the rank of Reverend.

Gachagua noted that their support has always been part of the family routine, sometimes feeling like a financial obligation because she frequently reminds them to honour it. The light-hearted remark briefly lifted the mood during the ceremony.

“And I want to thank my children for agreeing that we always support Dorcas in her ministry. From our family earnings, the boys and I always give 10% to Pastor Dorcas to go and do her ministry. So she reminds us all the time, and we are persuaded that she does the right thing,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua described Pastor Dorcas as the central pillar of their home, saying that the rhythm of their lives revolves around her.

He highlighted her strong belief in family values and her commitment to serving the less fortunate, especially the poor and vulnerable groups who look to her ministry for help.

Role played by Dorcas

Reflecting on their time in office, he said their demanding schedules often kept them apart. He would leave for work early, and Pastor Dorcas would be equally occupied with her outreach programmes.

Their paths crossed mainly in the evenings, and many times she would still be consumed by her advocacy for the boy child.

Despite the strain of such a schedule, the family remained united in supporting her mission, even if they could only accomplish a portion of what she would have wanted to do.

Gachagua expressed concern that some of the progress they had made during their time in office, such as efforts to curb illicit brews and rescue young men from destructive habits, has been lost.

He argued that some of the gains they had fought for are slowly being reversed, especially now that they no longer have access to national resources.

Even so, he assured those present that their commitment to Pastor Dorcas’ work remains firm.

Commitment to tithe

He looked back on the sacrifices made during the campaign period, including selling some of his property to finance political activities.

These decisions, he said, were made with the family’s full agreement. Even in those moments of financial strain, the family ensured that Pastor Dorcas received the portion needed to sustain her ministry.

According to Gachagua, this pattern of support will continue. Whether through personal income or proceeds from the sale of family property, they intend to keep channelling resources into her programmes for the boy child, widows, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

He expressed confidence that her new role as a Reverend will give her an even greater platform to expand her mission and reach more people.
