The Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination Dennis Itumbi has bashed the United Opposition leaders.

This is after leaders led by Democracy for Citizens Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka and others appeared to take credit for the mini poll victory in Nyamira County, where Amos Nyaribo is the governor.

Itumbi mocks united opposition

Through a Facebook post on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Itumbi stated that the two newly elected MCAs were not opposition candidates as claimed.

He said they were Broad-based candidates aligned to the United Progressive Alliance under Governor Nyaribo.

Itumbi argued that the United Opposition had celebrated a win that was not theirs.

He mocked them for what he described as jumping onto the victory without understanding how the contest had been planned.

“It was a Broad Based triumph, and UPA is fully aligned to that setup,” Itumbi wrote, saying the opposition had “no idea how well the game was planned.”

He also said Governor Nyaribo had already praised the team for delivering what he called a coordinated Broad Based win.

Itumbi’s rebuke to opposition

The post triggered reactions across political spaces as former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu joined the discussion.

Wambugu said the opposition had “owned the win” on behalf of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, believing the race to be theirs.

“And the way we had owned this one as Opposition on behalf of Matiangi. Wololo,” Wambugu posted, sounding partly amused and partly concerned.

He added that if Itumbi’s version was true, then the opposition was facing deeper challenges than it realised.

He questioned how the opposition could celebrate a victory without knowing the true political alignment of the candidates.

“Yaani we don’t even know who our people are. Once again congratulations Broad Based for winning in Nyamira,” Wambugu said.

In the same thread he pointed to a comment from Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.

According to Wambugu, Junet had said Gachagua has tried everything possible to divide Kenyans but people have refused to listen.

Ni ukweli?,” Wambugu asked, adding to the confusion and political back and forth that defined the Nyamira debate.
