DCP’s official welcomes Matiang’i’s nomination as Jubilee Party presidential candidate
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Organising Secretary Peter Mbae has welcomed the move by the Jubilee Party to endorse former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as its flag bearer in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement released by Peter Mbae on Thursday, October 30, 2025, moments after Matiang’i’s endorsement, he stated that his party, DCP, and the United Opposition welcome the move to have Matiang’i as their presidential candidate.
He further noted that Matiang’i now joins other United Opposition principals who individually harbour presidential ambitions but have vowed to shelve their aspirations and rally behind the chosen leader who will be their flag bearer after a selection formula is applied.
According to him, the process will ensure fairness among all aspirants and will likely see President William Ruto losing in the first round, avoiding a rerun.
“As DCP and United Opposition, we welcome the nomination of Dr Fred Matiang’i as a presidential candidate. He joins the other candidates who will come up with a formula to achieve a convincing win during Round One,” Mbae said.

Matiang’i’s endorsement
These come after the Jubilee Party, during its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, appointed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who had already declared interest in the presidency, as its presidential flag bearer and deputy party leader.
The Jubilee Party, which has recently caused confusion among Kenyans over its unclear position regarding whether it aligns with the government or the opposition, has now made its stance clear by expressing full commitment to the united opposition.

The party has authorised its flag bearer, Matiang’i, to engage with members of the opposition coalition and represent Jubilee within the alliance as a broader part of popularising his candidature.
The Secretary-General also promised to officially communicate Matiang’i’s appointment to the leadership of the united opposition.
Besides clarifying their position in the opposition, the party vowed to engage with other like-minded political formations to build a strong and united Kenya.

This comes a day after Fred Matiang’i publicly expressed his full commitment to the united opposition, saying that while they might have personal differences and occasional disagreements, they share one common goal: to ensure that the current regime does not extend its rule beyond 2027.
