Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate for the Banisa by-election, Aden Mohammed, has dismissed reports that he is in talks with the government to join the UDA party.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, during the unveiling of the candidates in Nairobi, Mohammed said he has no business talking with the state.

“There are many speculations, rumours, and videos created that Aden is talking with the government; I have no business talking with the government. I want to represent my people in parliament, and I want to be their voice,” he stated.

Coercion to defect

Mohammed equally lamented what he termed coercion from a section of the leadership of the country, urging him to shift allegiance.

“The leadership of this country is trying to coerce the people of Banisa into a contest that the people of Banisa are not ready for. One thing I want to tell them is that they should not waste their time,” he said.

“The people of Banisa have told me in no uncertain terms that I should be on the ballot with the party called DCP. I want to tell those people spreading rumours that there is no day under the sun and there is no person who will push me out of this race; I am set and ready to hit the ground.”

Lacked representation

He urged the IEBC to declare the Banisa seat vacant in time to allow for campaigns and a by-election, noting that the residents of the area have lacked a voice for three years.

“I am telling IEBC not to waste our time; the people of Banisa have been lacking an MP for almost three years, and their voices have not been heard in the last three years. I want to be that who will pick up and represent them in the last two remaining years,” Mohammed noted.

“I want to challenge my opponent in UDA; it is the people of Banisa who are going to vote, and they have already decided.”

Former Banisa MP Kullow Maalim died on March 28, 2023, after he was knocked down by a hit-and-run motorcycle in Nairobi.
