Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) Leader Eugene Wamalwa has put on notice their former partners in the Azimio coalition for flirting with President William Ruto, saying they will defeat them at the ballot.

Speaking during the launch of the People’s Liberation Party in Nairobi on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Eugene emphasized that the dalliance with President Ruto’s regime was akin to taking a stance against the side of the people.

Like leaders before him, Wamalwa echoed the message of unity among them as crucial in sending Ruto home.

In his address, Wamalwa further urged the leaders to be willing to shelve their interests for the good of the majority.

“It’s our position as DAP that we are ready to unite and liberate our country. We must be prepared to bear any burden, to make any sacrifices and to oppose any foe including our former allies who are leaving their position on the side of the people and joining Kasongo. We will be ready to meet them omundu khu mundu,” he said.

Flagbearer

The former CS also backed the various leaders at the event to offer Kenya an alternative leadership.

“What I see here I team capable of leading this country. But we can’t all lead at one time. There can only be one president at a time.

Wamalwa further expressed his readiness to support whoever will be nominated to be the flagbearer from the team.

“We can talk lead at once you can lead but only be one president at a time. If I am honoured to be that flag bearer I will not let you down. If not, I will be the first to support the first among equals who takes that position as flagbearer to get Ruto out,” Wamalwa affirmed.

Wamalwa’s sentiments on being open to supporting any candidate within their group were echoed by Martha Karua.

Speaking during the function, Karua emphasized that liberating the country requires the collective support of all people of goodwill.

“You may wonder how we are going to do it, I have expressed my wish to run for president, as my twin brother Kalonzo Musyoka and my son Morara Kebaso and many others,” Karua said.

“Whoever gets selected as a candidate through a transparent method that we will devise, we will all queue behind that person.I may have said that I do not want to be a deputy but that doesn’t mean I won’t support another candidate. I do not have to be on that ticket but I will commit 100 per cent if I am not the candidate, to help deliver victory to Kenyans,” she pledged.
