The former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, has come out to question the delay by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in ditching the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) despite, according to him, it being clear that his stay in the party is no longer tenable.

While speaking to Democracy for Citizens (DCP) delegates from Nairobi County on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at his Wamunyoro residence, he urged the Linda Mwananchi team leader to quit the party and join where Kenyans are.

He continued expressing his astonishment at the embattled ODM secretary-general, saying that despite the onslaught he has been facing for the past few months, Sifuna has refused to quit the party and continues to fight for his ODM secretary-general position.

Wewe Sifuna, unangoja nini? Hii jamaa amekuhangaisha. Why are you waiting? Si ukuje pahali wananchi wako?”

Gachagua went ahead to take a swipe at the current status of the ODM party, saying that it is now like an empty shell since Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino left the party, which was formed and founded by Raila Odinga. He added that even after ODM was reduced to a Luo party, the people in Nyanza have gone ahead to reject it and no longer want to be associated with it.

Gachagua, who claims that the DCP party is the most popular political party in Nairobi County, stated that the ODM party in Nairobi is finished and will not get even a single representative elected on its ticket in the next election.

Osotsi slams Sifuna.

Several leaders allied to Sifuna, led by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, have come out to criticise him over continuing to fight for his ODM Secretary-General seat, urging him to ditch ODM and transform the Linda Mwananchi movement into a fully fledged political party.

They went ahead to tell him that the Linda Mwananchi movement, which he has been leading and which has been attracting huge crowds for months, has now grown bigger than the ODM party he is still holding on to.

Orengo’s remarks

Siaya Governor James Orengo, on his part, has sided with Sifuna’s continued defence of his secretary-general seat, saying that although, at the right time, he will officially ditch the ODM party, doing so now would be a selfish move.

According to Orengo, Raila Odinga, whom Sifuna has served under for nine years, would not be happy with such a decision and would ask him why he was abandoning the party.

He further added that ditching the party at this stage would be akin to betraying Raila Odinga’s legacy of building a political party with a national footprint only for people like Sifuina to ditch it.
