Caroli Omondi reveals how he bankrolled ODM with vehicles, cash, and T-shirts
Suba South Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caroli Omondi has disclosed the scale of his financial contributions to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over the past decade.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Omondi revealed that his support extended far beyond ordinary campaign donations.
The lawmaker said his involvement in party financing is not new, but he provided significant backing in earlier election cycles, including cash, vehicles, campaign materials, and logistical support.
He, however, revealed that he did not give the Orange party any money during the 2022 and 2017 general elections, explaining the reasons behind his decision.
According to him, he refused to give ODM money in 2017 after they denied him a certificate, but he had $2 million (approximately Ksh258 million) for them.
“Caroli Omondi financing a political party is not new. In 2022 I didn’t give them any money. In 2017, I refused to give ODM money after they denied me a certificate, but I had $2 million for them,” Omondi said.

2013 ODM funding
Omondi further detailed that his 2013 contributions included the purchase of 25 vehicles for party use, $2 million (Ksh258 million) worth of T-shirts, over $100 million (Ksh12.9 billion) in support for candidates, and Ksh90 million paid to campaign agents.
He emphasised that all these contributions were documented.
“In 2013, I spent about Ksh700M on ODM. I bought them 25 vehicles, gave them T-Shirts for $2 million, I gave candidates a hundred and something million dollars, and paid their agents Ksh90 million. All those are documented,” he said.

ODM exit
Omondi also dismissed claims that he has exited the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
He clarified that he remains a member of the ODM party despite declaring he will not seek re-election on its ticket.
The lawmaker stated that had he formally left ODM, his move would have automatically triggered a by-election in Suba South, something that has not happened.
“If I had left ODM, there would have been a by-election in my constituency (Suba South), so I have not left ODM. I have, however, made it clear that I will not seek re-election in ODM,” Omondi said.
The MP emphasised that he will continue serving as an ODM legislator until the end of his current term.
“That is what I have done, and I have given them notice in advance, but I am still a member of ODM, and I will still be until my term ends,” he said.
