Suba South Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caroli Omondi has dismissed claims that he has exited the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking on the night of Wednesday, February 18, 2026, during an interview with a local TV station, Omondi clarified that he remains a member of the ODM party despite declaring he will not seek re-election on its ticket.

By-election

Omondi stated that had he formally left ODM, his move would have automatically triggered a by-election in Suba South, something that has not happened.

“If I had left ODM, there would have been a by-election in my constituency (Suba South), so I have not left ODM. I have, however, made it clear that I will not seek re-election in ODM,” Omondi said.

The MP emphasised that he will continue serving as an ODM legislator until the end of his current term.

“That is what I have done, and I have given them notice in advance, but I am still a member of ODM, and I will still be until my term ends,” he said.

His clarification comes amid heightened political realignments within the opposition, where several leaders have recently signalled shifts in strategy ahead of the next general election cycle.

Azimio leadership changes

Caroli Omondi recently dismissed claims by the ODM that it was sidelined in recent leadership changes within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

Speaking on Monday, February 16, 2026, during an interview with one of the local radio stations, Omondi, who was appointed secretary general of the coalition during the recent changes, defended the restructuring.

The recent changes also saw Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka named Azimio party leader and former secretary general Junet Mohamed replaced.

ODM had protested the move, arguing that the changes were made without its knowledge or involvement despite being a founding member of the coalition.

However, Omondi insisted the party was duly notified.

“ODM protested that we made changes in Azimio without informing them. The truth is, ODM have never informed us, as Azimio, that they have a new party leader,” Omondi said.
