Barasa puts his political rivals on red alert over 2027 elections
Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has asked his opponent for the Bungoma gubernatorial race to brace for a moment of reckoning against the residents of the county when the election time comes in 2027.
Speaking in Bukembe West, Kanduyi, Bungoma County, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Barasa stated that his political critics will be in for the wrath of the voters when the time for the 2027 elections comes.
Didmus, whose gubernatorial bid has caused political aftershocks in the region, expressed optimism that he would trounce all his opponents in the race and emerge the winner.
Embarrass them
“My message to the people of Bungoma is that next year in August, we will show the haughty leaders and those despising the people of low income, the humble, and those who have been speaking ill of me and my appearance, that they will know the people of Bungoma have decided,” he stated.
He also took a swipe at his closest rival and challenger, Tim Wanyonyi, dismissing his ability to wage any meaningful challenge to his bid.
“Do you think that tourist will beat me? I am confident that I am capable of the governorship role. We will show the tourist his place and return to his place by sending him very early,” he stated.

The outspoken MP concluded by further calling out a section of grassroots leaders for engaging in discriminatory acts against the county’s residents and issuing him threats.
He particularly singled out the area MCA for making distinctions among his constituents.
2027 gubernatorial race
I have come here after receiving calls from women and men from this region about being sidelined by the MCA. He has also been issuing me with threats about visiting this region,” he added.
“I said I would come here and greet you all regardless of their appearance and looks because all people are the same,” he stated.
The UDA-allied politician is among the two MPs who have declared interest in the third governor of the county, alongside Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi.
Others in the race includes businessman Zechariah Barasa and former governor Wafula Wangamati.
