Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili, alias Babu Owino and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale have urged the youth to register as voters and stamp out bad governance at the ballot in the 2027 general election.

Speaking separately on Monday, October 6, 2025, the two legislators rallied the county’s youth to participate in the ongoing exercise of continuous voter registration that kicked off nationwide on Monday, September 29, 2025.

On his part, Babu Owino advised the youth against ignoring the voter registration call, further adding that their votes play a critical role in voting for a responsible government in the next general election. The legislator, who is eyeing the Nairobi City County Governor seat in the forthcoming polls, said the youth should ensure that their voices are heard by turning up in their numbers to register.

Voter registration drive

”They want us to believe that the youth of this country are unmotivated. They want us to think that our voices do not matter. That our vote won’t count. Our voices will be heard at the ballot box. Tafadhali, tujisajili Nairobi ili tuweze kuongea kwa sauti moja,” Babu Owino took to X.

In the wake of forced disappearances and abductions of young people linked to anti-government protests, Babu Owino has argued that such incidents can only happen when the country’s younger generation takes part in revolution at the ballot.

”To my Gen-Z brothers and sisters, this is our time to register as voters. Let us address the issues of abduction, corruption, and poor infrastructure,” Babu Owino said on Friday, October 3, 2025.

Echoing Babu Owino’s sentiments, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who is eyeing the Kakamega County Governor seat in 2027, said the process of demanding better leadership starts with registering as voters.

”Good leadership is the principal factor of the success of any nation. No Kenyan should be left behind in choosing who becomes the President, Governor, Senator, MNA and MCA. I urge all our youth to register as voters,” Khalwale said.

Meanwhile, as political leaders urge the youth to register as voters ahead of the 2027 general election, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has recorded low numbers in the entire exercise that will be on, eight months before the August 2027 general polls.
