Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has challenged Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga to ensure the party not only fields a presidential candidate but also captures power in the upcoming elections in 2027.

Speaking in Uyoma, Rarienda constituency, during the burial of Dr. Odundo Ambitho on Saturday, May 17, 2025, Babu warned that the party cannot afford to cede ground to unpopular candidates heading to the decisive elections.

“In 2027, Baba, this time round we need to focus because ODM should produce a president of the Republic of Kenya. We should not leave this seat to any other person, especially those who are very unpopular,” he said.

The MP pledged to redress the burden of over-taxation and unemployment placed on Kenyans once ODM assumes power.

“We know that Kenyans are suffering. There are challenges of unemployment, high cost of living, and over-taxation that must be cured. That cure must come from ODM,” he stated.

Speaking at the same function, Alego Usonga, Member of Parliament (MP) Sam Atandi, noted that the party remains united under Raila’s leadership and will heed his call on the next political path.

“Baba, you are full of wisdom. We have confidence in you, and we know you mean well for the country, and you will give us direction going forward, “he added.

The chairman of the budget committee also sought to clarify ODM’s position under the broad-based government, stating that the issue has brought considerable confusion to the people.

“People are confused that we have entered into the government. We are ODM, and we are not in government. Our vehicle for politics is ODM, and our captain is Raila Odinga,” Atandi added.

MP Otiende Amollo (Rarieda) and Raila’s siblings, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga and Akinyi Wenwa were also present in the function.

Dr. Odundo Ambitho was the father of renowned statistician Angela Ambitho.
