Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has stepped up his tour of the Ukambani region in preparation for an upcoming visit by President William Ruto, assuring residents that the government’s development agenda will benefit them equally and without bias.

Speaking on Friday, 13 June 2025 in Mwala, Machakos County, Kindiki emphasised that Ukambani, like every other region in Kenya, deserves meaningful development that uplifts the lives of its people.

“We are developing this region as every part of our country because there is no part of the country that is not important,” he stated.

Over the past week, the DP has toured several constituencies in the region, including Machakos Town, Masinga, Kaiti, Kangundo, Kitui East, Kitui South, Kilome, and Kitui Central, where he has engaged in a series of empowerment meetings.

During these engagements, Kindiki urged local leaders to resist being drawn into divisive and backward politics. He reiterated President Ruto’s commitment to equitable development across the country, regardless of political affiliation.

Call for political amity

He called upon all leaders—across the political divide—to prioritise service to the people over political posturing.

“Every leader in this country, including those in opposition, has a responsibility to participate in nation-building. We should all unite in that endeavour because this is the time for development,” he said.

“When it is time for politicking, we will pursue our diverse political persuasions with utmost respect for each other.”

Kindiki added that he is working collaboratively with leaders from across the Ukambani region to ensure that the area is not left behind in the government’s development plans. He also indicated his intention to reach out to former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka for consultations on strategies to advance the region’s interests.

According to Kindiki, national unity is essential for sustained development. He highlighted the broad-based arrangement as a key pillar of the administration’s growth strategy, complemented by various empowerment initiatives, including those he is championing across the country.

He firmly affirmed his allegiance to the President and the citizens of Kenya, pledging unwavering dedication to national service.

“We must not spoil the nation’s mood through useless politics that incite division and tribalism…I am a Yes Man to the President and wananchi because they are my bosses,” he declared.

In Mwala, Kindiki announced that the government has allocated funds for the construction of the Mwala-Kangundo Road and committed to financing major water projects within the region. Additionally, he revealed that hundreds of affordable housing units have been earmarked for Masii town, alongside investments in technical training institutes to boost skills and employment in the area.
