Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has come out to call for the disbandment of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), accusing it of failing Kenyans.

In a lengthy post on his X account on Saturday, June 14, 2025, the legislator demanded that the authority be disbanded, citing its inability to investigate and bring to book the police officers involved in the murder of the slain teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang Omondi.

According to Salasya, the body is playing games with a matter that is extremely serious.

He went ahead to poke holes in the ongoing investigations, questioning why IPOA is yet to present the officers who arrested Ojwang at his home in Homa Bay County.

He wondered why it is so difficult to present these officers before the court, whether to testify, record a statement, or even appear as state witnesses.

Salasya stated that he is personally eager to know the faces of those who carried out the arrest.

“Let us disband IPOA because it has failed Kenyans terribly; it’s playing kalongolo games in this serious matter. It’s surprising that Kenyans know about OCS Talam, PC Mukhwana, and the DCI vehicle that ferried Albert from Homabay, but those specific individuals who arrested Albert wamefichwa kama bangi.

“I am also interested to know by face the ones who presented Albert at Nairobi Central Police. What is it that makes it so hard even for IPOA to present those DCI officers who arrested Albert before the court, even as state witnesses, or record a statement?” Salasya said.

Demand

The MP further stated that if DCI boss Mohamed Amin cannot present the officers in court, then he too should step aside and be investigated by IPOA.

“If Amin can’t present the officers who arrested Albert in court, he should instead also be arraigned in court or step aside for him to be investigated by IPOA too,” he added.

Salasya also called upon Kenyans to rise up and ensure the matter does not go unpunished.

He warned that allowing such an incident to pass quietly would set a dangerous precedent, normalising police abuse and making such occurrences more frequent in the future. He stressed that every life matters, even if it belongs to a street child.

“Kenyans, we must not let this matter go scot-free because it will worsen one day. We must respect the gift of life of anyone hata kaa ni ya a street child or anyone else.” He concluded.
