Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Arap Kirwa has expressed support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s campaign to restore confidence in Kenya’s government institutions.

Speaking on a local TV station interview on Monday, September 15, 2025, Kirwa described Gachagua’s efforts as crucial for improving service delivery across the country.

Kirwa praised Gachagua’s vision, noting its alignment with the broader objectives of the united opposition.

“As Gachagua said, and I want to agree with him, we want to restore confidence in government institutions so that when you go to a police station, you are sure to get the services that police are supposed to dispense to Kenyans. When you go to a hospital, when you go to schools, any government office, you know, if you are right, then you are going to be served to the best ability of the office or officers, and within the limited resources that we have,” Kirwa stated.

He further emphasised that Gachagua’s strategy remains in line with opposition goals, adding, “I would actually be naive to say Gachagua has gone outside the script that we have as a united opposition.”

Engagements

Gachagua has been engaging with citizens across the country, highlighting their resilience in the face of economic hardships.

In a recent post on X, he shared images of residents in Muruka, Kandara Constituency, Murang’a County, noting their ability to maintain hope despite challenging times.

“The people of Kenya are truly resilient. Despite facing challenging economic times and the ongoing destruction of our nation’s resources by those entrusted with their stewardship, Kenyans continue to wear a smile and exhibit unwavering hope,” he wrote.

He added, “It is this enduring hope that fuels our journey toward a brighter tomorrow. Together, we will overcome the obstacles, rebuild our economy, and reach the heights we aspire to.”

While speaking at a church service in Nyeri on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Gachagua stated that he had returned to his home region to seek blessings before launching his nationwide campaign for the presidency.

“I came home yesterday to ask for blessings before I begin this journey. As I started this journey, I needed blessings from home,” he told congregants.

He also vowed that, if elected in 2027, he would avoid overpromising to Kenyans, noting the challenges facing the economy, including a national debt now capped at Ksh12 trillion.

Policy promises

Politically, Gachagua has positioned himself as a proponent of change, promising to scrap controversial policies such as the housing levy and security directives if elected in 2027.

During a church service in Nyeri on September 14, 2025, he vowed to rescind the shoot-on-the-leg order issued by President Ruto and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, citing rising insecurity around Nairobi.

“Rigathi Gachagua will rescind the order by William Ruto to shoot on the leg,” he declared, in reference to gang-related crimes and the assassination of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu.
