Anyang’ Nyong’o fires back at Kalonzo over Ruto-Raila deal criticism

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has hit back at Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his criticism of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Friday, March 7, 2025, in Nairobi.
In a statement on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Nyong’o dismissed Kalonzo’s complaints, pointing out that the Wiper leader has been holding separate discussions with leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, without consulting ODM.
He added that ODM had not raised any concerns and had acknowledged Kalonzo’s right to political engagements.
“I have read the comments of Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, regarding the MOU that ODM and UDA signed in Nairobi on Friday.
Kalonzo’s discontent is that Azimio was left out. In that regard, therefore, Raila betrayed Azimio,” Nyong’o said.
“In the meantime, the same Kalonzo has been meeting with all kinds of characters, including Rigathi Gachagua, without consulting us at all. But we never complained. We took it as his democratic right to do so. Whether or not he has signed some agreement with them is none of our business.
In addition, Nyong’o explained that the MoU commits both ODM and UDA to work towards national unity, ensuring that all political parties and movements, regardless of their regional support bases, contribute to building a united Kenya.

He further encouraged Kalonzo to seek dialogue with Raila Odinga and William Ruto for the future of the country.
“Kalonzo could acquaint himself better in the court of conscience if he reads the content of the MOU before he condemns its having been signed by the the two parties. The MOU commits the partners to build a much stronger democratic political culture in which all parties and movements, notwithstanding their “base of support”, will build the Kenyan nation together,” he added.
“There is therefore still room for Kalonzo Musyoka to seek to dialogue with our two leaders to work for the future of our nation.
Kalonzo on Ruto-Raila’s pact
Nyong’o’s remarks come after Kalonzo expressed disappointment, arguing that Raila and Ruto’s pact had betrayed Kenyans.
Speaking after Rail-Ruto ‘s pact agreement event, Kalonzo regretted that the union between the two parties would still be dismissed by the public following the Kenya Kwanza policies refuted by the members of the public.
“What has come out of KICC today is the biggest betrayal of Kenyans. The People’s Loyal Coalition will never betray Kenyans for temporary comfort,” Kalonzo said.

He also pointed out that Raila would be betraying Kenyans if he failed to advocate for the compensation of Kenyans killed and injured during the Finance Bill protests.
“If out of what they are signing at KICC, they do not come with a formula on how to address the injustice meted on Kenyans on June 25 and 2023 that will be betrayal in the city. Handshake or no handshake, Ruto must go,” he added.
