Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticised former Prime Minister Raila Odinga following his recently signed pact with President William Ruto.

Speaking after the event held at the KICC on Friday, March 7, 2025, Kalonzo regretted that union between the two parties will still be dismissed by the public following the Kenya Kwanza policies refuted by the members of the public. He also noted that the pact is the biggest betrayal to Kenyans.

“What has come out of KICC today is the biggest betrayal of Kenyans. The People’s Loyal Coalition will never betray Kenyans for temporary comfort,” Kalonzo said.

He also pointed out that Raila would be bteraying Kenyans if he fails to advocate for the compensation of Kenyans killed and injured during the Finance Bill protests.

“If out of what they are signing at KICC, they do not come with a formula on how to address the injustice meted on Kenyans on June 25 and 2023 that will be betrayal in the city. Handshake or no handshake, Ruto must go.”

Ruto and Raila pact

Raila and Ruto officially signed the framework agreement which they say is meant to enable ODM to collaborate with Kenya Kwanza in fulfilling campaign pledges to the people.

Speaking during the event, Ruto emphasized that the memorandum of understanding is focused on prioritizing the interests of the citizens.

“This moment is not about William Ruto or Raila Odinga; this memorandum of understanding is not about sharing positions or winning elections. It is about the interests of the people of Kenya,” Ruto said.

Raila on the other hand said the MoU will help to ease tensions and alleviate the political, social and economic issues plaguing the country.

“We have agreed to use our parties as a broad platform bringing together various voices, opinions and concerns to address the critical challenges facing the country through a formation that is truly inclusive in outlook. We make it clear that the Memorandum we have signed today does not define the formation of a political coalition between ODM and UDA. However, its successful implementation could inform the basis of steps towards the establishment of a constitutive formation of a stable country in future,” he said.

However, hours after signing the agreement, the ODM leader set the record straight that the memorandum should not be misunderstood as the formation of a political coalition between their two parties.

“We make it clear that the memorandum we have signed today does not define the formation of a political coalition between ODM and UDA. However, its successful implementation could inform the basis of steps towards the establishment of a progressive formation for a stable country in the future,” Raila said.

Lawmakers drawn from across the political divide, government officials and Cabinet Secretaries attended the event.
