Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has listed essential qualities for the next Cabinet Secretaries (CSs).

Taking to his official X account Sunday, July 14, 2024, the vocal MP stated that the upcoming Treasury CS must exhibit deep knowledge and experience in fiscal management to enable him/her to salvage Kenya’s economy.

He added that the CS should have experience working in a similar public finance environment coupled with academic history.

“The next minister of finance must exhibit deep knowledge and experience in fiscal management and economic growth. He must demonstrate how to get Kenya out of the deep hole,” Amisi said.

“Coupled academic history and working in a similar public finance environment.”

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker further stated that the nominee should not have any record of graft cases.

“Without a record of graft cases to his or her name. If not, don’t attend my vetting. Kenya needs a Renaissance,” he stated.

Next Cabinet

Airing his views on the next cabinet, the Saboti MP said that tribal appointments are the biggest problem in the country adding that a minister waving a tribal card will embezzle public funds adding that Kenya needs a renaissance.

“If you want your tribesmen or women in office, please elect them. Cabinet should never be an ethnic theatre. Anyone in the cabinet waving a tribal card will steal public money, mess up, vomit on your shoes. Tribal appointments are our biggest problem as a nation,” Amisi said.

Health CS

Touching on the health docket, Amisi said that the minister should not necessarily be a doctor but have a proven track record in the management of health practitioners.

“Next minister for health must have served in public health institutions, NOT necessarily a doctor but a person with a proven track record in management of health practitioners,” he said.

He added that the minister should be able to handle perennial doctors’ strike once and for all. and formulate a permanent, efficient, and effective health insurance scheme that works and is extremely averse to corruption.

“Must elucidate how to form independent health commission to handle perennial doctors’ strike once and for all and formulate a permanent, efficient, and effective health insurance scheme that works and is extremely averse from corruption,” Amisi said.

“Records working in other jurisdictions; war-torn countries, and Scandinavian experience are an added advantage. If not, avoid facing me in the vetting. Kenya needs a renaissance.”
