Kenyans are eagerly awaiting for the cost of fuel to reduce, with the Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority (Epra) set to announce the new retail prices for the next 30 days today.

The regulator has traditionally announced the prices on the 14th of each month, and subsequently reviewed it on the 15 of the following month.

On March 14, Epra increased the cost of super by Sh2 to retail at Sh179.30, while maintaining that of diesel and kerosene at Sh162 and Sh145.94, respectively, after subsidising the price of diesel by Sh23.49 per litre.

The cost of fuel price is influenced by 8 per cent value added tax (VAT) and the average landed cost.
Last month, the average landed cost Super Petrol imports declined by 0.06 per cent from $659.87 per cubic meter in January 2023 to $659.47 per cubic meter in February 2023, while that of diesel decreased by 2.52 per cent from $779.49 per cubic meter to $ 759.88 per cubic meter. Kerosene also decreased by 1.51 per cent from $774.99 per cubic meter to $ 763.28 per cubic meter in the period under review. This comes even as Parliament is debating ways of bringing down the cost of fuel.
