George Koimburi retained his Juja parliamentary seat after beating two other opponents in a hotly contested election battle on Thursday, August 11.

The UDA candidate, who clinched the seat in a by-election last year, was declared the winner by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after garnering 39,413 votes.

Koimburi’s closest rival Aloise Kinyanjui of the ruling Jubilee party got 30,799, followed by independent candidate Prof Joseph Ng’ang’a ‘Mustard’ who managed 8,588 votes.

The MP-elect extended an olive branch to his competitors, urging them to bury the hatchet and work with him.

Kinyanjui vows to challenge results in court

Kinyanjui has, however, declined to concede defeat and instead vowed to go to court to seek nullification of the results.

The candidate claims the election was not free and fair.
