Political realignments within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are becoming clearer as former allies of ex–Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua attend the party’s National Governing Council meeting.

Several former allies of DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua used a State House meeting chaired by President Ruto on Monday, January 26, 2026, to reaffirm their departure from Gachagua and declare renewed loyalty to UDA.

Among notable UDA members who showed up for the State House meeting is Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba, who had been a staunch ally to Gachagua, but the two have not seen eye to eye lately, leading to their political divorce.

“I have decided this year I want to be maendeleo na kazi siasa tutapiga baadae na niko State House, niko nyumbani kwa UDA”, Gathoni Wamuchomba, loosely translated as: “I have decided this year to be focused on development and work, politics will come later. I am at the statehouse, and I am at the home of UDA.”

Juja MP George Koimburi was also spotted at the State House meeting after breaking ranks with Gachagua in December 2025.

Koimburi, who had remained in the Gachagua-led faction for nine months, later announced his return to President Ruto’s ruling party UDA.

The defections of former Gachagua allies signal potential cracks within DCP in the Mt Kenya region while bolstering UDA’s dominance and highlighting President Ruto’s grip on the vote-rich region.

Gachagua, however, has rubbished the claims, arguing the defectors were never loyal to DCP and insisting his party remains strong both in the region and nationally.
