Muturi dares critics to go ahead and impeach him
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has maintained his stance against abductions and dared those calling for his resignation or impeachment to make real their threats.
The defiant Muturi said he was not opposing the government position, adding that everyone has been denouncing abductions and extrajudicial activities.
The CS said those who thought he did not know what he was doing were up for a rude shock.
In apparent response to Kenya Kwanza Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro who said he would spearhead his removal from office, Muturi termed such statements very infantile, and not worthy of his response.
Osoro took a stab at CS Muturi for publicly criticising the government rather than bringing up the matter with the head of state in Cabinet meetings.
“I want to tell him (Muturi) that he currently has three choices: he could step down, apologise in public, or be impeached when Parliament reconvenes,” Osoro said.
In response, Muturi said: “I would just say bring it on (impeachment). At my age I am not the kind of person to respond to some perfunctory statements made by fairly inexperienced politicians. They are not worthy my response,” he said.
Muturi said though the government claimed that it did not support abductions, there has not been a Cabinet memorandum on the issue.
“That has not been presented before the Cabinet and even then, if it were to come it must come from the relevant Cabinet Secretary,” he said.
“The government can’t say that it does not know anything about the abductions because that amounts to shunning its responsibility on accountability.
“It cannot be excused for abdicating its duty of protecting lives property. After my statement several young people were released, but from the reports we see many are still being held,” he said.
