Paul Okatwa reveals secrets to Kakamega Homeboyz’s fine run

Kakamega Homeboyz assistant coach Paul Okatwa has attributed the remarkable run in the 2025 Football Kenya Federation Kenya Premier League to a solid depth in the Abana Ba Ingo team.
Speaking to People Daily Sports, the tactician spoke highly of the team’s achievement in a season that saw the Kakamega-based club defy a slow start to sit at fourth spot on the standings with two games left.
Francis Baraza’s charges league’s most in-form side, boasting a streak of nine games without a defeat.
“The success in the season has been down to teamwork. If you look at the players within our ranks, you notice that most of them are an average age of 22 years. We have not only created an environment where everyone has an equal chance to prove their case, but also one where they can thrive. We also have a good squad depth with players capable of stepping up in case of injuries,” he stated.
Credit to players
Speaking retrospectively on the current campaign, Okatwa credited the players for mustering a resurgence that saw them within reach of being crowned champions.
“We have to credit the players for the job done. Looking at where we started the campaign, you can’t fault their input. They have been exceptional and rose to the occasion,” he added.
Homeboys, who are mathematically out of contention for the title can, however, draw inspiration from chasing after their best-ever finish in the top-flight league.
The trainer asserts that they will not be resting on their laurels heading into the penultimate and league finale encounters.

“We now shifts focus on the remaining games. We will give the matches the concentration they deserve as we hope to get victories in them. We only have to do our part, and let us see where the results we get place us at the end of the season,” he concluded.
An away clash to Bidco United and a date at home against Tusker FC are the remaining clashes on the team’s final league engagements.
In addition to the overall fine form, the club is likely to claim the Football Kenya (FKF) Premier League’s Golden Boot award, with striker Moses Shumah currently atop the top scorer’s chart.
Shumah, who has scored 17 league goals, is closely followed by FC Talanta’s Emmanuel Osoro (16 goals) as the league’s lethal netbusters.
