Ex-governor Granton Samboja lands state job

President William Ruto has appointed Former Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya (PPCK). 

According to a gazette notice under the State Corporations Act, Samboja will serve as Non-Executive Chairperson for three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint, Granton Samboja to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 23rd May, 2025,” the notice read.

Samboja served as the second governor of Taita Taveta, having being elected on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket from 2017 to 2022.

He contested to retain his seat in the 2022 election but was beaten by current Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime. 

Other appointments

The president also appointed Lieutenant General Adan K. Mulata to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Service Council in the latest notice.

Mulata who currently serves as the  Executive Chairman of the Peace Prospect Institute-Africa (PPI-Africa) will serve at his latest appointment for three years. 

“Appointment in exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 (2) (a) of the National Youth Service Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint – Adan K. Mulata (Lieutenant General (Rtd.) to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Service Council, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 23rd May, 2025,” the notice added. 

Other appointments include that of John Mwangi Karondo who will serve as member of the State Corporations Advisory Committee for three years.
