Contractors in Kisii county have asked the county government to clear millions of shillings in pending bills owed to them.

County contractors’ chairman, Wilfred Bosire (inset, below) implored the county government to pay contractors who delivered on their contracts, saying the delay in paying them was hurting their families.

“Businesses have collapsed due to low circulation of money. Contractors cannot feed their families and educate their children” Bosire said.

He lamented that several contractors and suppliers had fallen into depressions due to frustrations in getting their contracts honoured by the county government.

Genuine contractors
Kisii governor Simba Arati recently warned that the county government will not pay contractors who did not deliver on their contracts.

The governor has periodically maintained that only genuine contractors who did quality work will be paid, adding that he will not condone corruption and waste of public funds paying contractors for non -existent work.

Arati has also insisted that the county embraced a policy of engaging one contractor in each constituency in a bid to ensure uniformity in work done and to reduce corruption.

Meanwhile, Bosire has asked contractors awarded tenders from the national government to implement projects in the county to employ locals and sub-contract some of the works to benefit residents.

He noted it was expensive to ferry workers from other counties to supply materials or do simple work, stressing that engaging locals will foster money circulation and improve their lives.
