The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from its membership.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, in a press statement issued on Monday, May 19, 2025, noted that the party’s Disciplinary Committee had resolved that Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the UDA Party with immediate effect.

“Pursuant to Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the Party’s Disciplinary Committee has resolved that Sen. Gloria Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party with immediate effect,” the statement read in part.

Omar further stated that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had already adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s decision.

UDA party privileges

Following the decision, Senator Orwoba will no longer enjoy any privileges accorded to party members.

UDA also says she is not authorised to represent or act on behalf of the Party in any capacity.

“Further, during its meeting held on 19th May 2025, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s decision. Accordingly, Sen. Gloria Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party. Consequently, she no longer enjoys any privileges accorded to party members, nor is she authorised to represent or act on behalf of the party in any capacity,” Omar stated.

Orwoba replaced

UDA has also formally written to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi to initiate the process of her removal from the house.

The party has also notified the Registrar of Political Parties and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Orwoba’s expulsion and nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from the Kimilili constituency, Bungoma County, to replace her.

Wakwabubi’s nomination comes days after Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa fronted her name as the best replacement for Orwoba.

Taking to his official X account on May 10, 2025, Barasa stated that the Parliament must swiftly conclude the vetting process for the IEBC chairperson and commissioners to enable the official gazettement of Wakwabubi as a nominated senator.

“Senator Gloria Orwoba’s nomination was a stroke of fortune, precipitated by Hon. CS Soipan Tuya’s appointment as Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Forestry, and Natural Resources. Next in line for nomination is Consolata Wakwabubi from Kimilili. Parliament must swiftly conclude the vetting process for the IEBC chairperson and commissioners to enable the official gazettement of Consolata Wakwabubi as a nominated senator. Senator Gloria Orwoba, may you chart the course that aligns with your deepest convictions,” Barasa stated.
