Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) league defending champions Equity Hawks went ahead to crush University of Nairobi (UoN) Dynamites 75-29 in what was more of a one-sided clash at Africa Nazarene University.

Hawks asserted their dominance from the opening tip-off on both ends of the court, combining a ruthless offensive approach with suffocating defence to dismantle their opponents and maintain momentum in their title defence campaign.

Head coach Ben Oluoch lauded the display as one of the team’s most complete this season, singling out their hunger for every possession.

“Our first mission is to try and get back to the finals and defend our title. We want to make sure everybody is mentally and physically prepared and psyched to the maximum… our first mission is to be in the top 5, get in the playoffs, and then we will look to defend the title we won last season,” he said.

Captain Melissa Akinyi Otieno led by example, praising her teammates for sticking to their structure and trusting each other on court.

She noted that they followed the game plan and stayed disciplined. That the win was a testament to their “collective hustle, heart and precise execution” of their strategies.

With the playoffs looming, the Hawks now turn their focus to a high-octane rematch against the USIU Flames in a clash likely to test their form and intent as the postseason nears.
