The Bungoma Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) will next week go to polls to elect their executive secretary after Kenneth Ngangah was appointed by President William Ruto to be the ambassador in United Arab Emirate (UAE).

Those who want to replace the ambassador have intensified their campaigns by criss-crossing schools selling their manifesto to members.

The current assistant executive secretary Dennis Masai will be battling it out with Ngangah’s arch rival Kennedy Luketelo.

Luketelo has lost two times to Ngangah and now he hopes to clinch the elusive seat after his exit.

2000 members

Bungoma South KNUT branch comprises of two constituencies; Kanduyi and Bumula with over 2,000 registered members.

“I have been the main challenger of Ngangah for the last two consecutive elections and its now the high time the members considers me’’ said Luketelo.

He also argues that since the outgoing secretary was from Kanduyi constituency it was prudent that teachers now replaces him with someone from Bumula constituency.

“Kanduyi teachers are now privileged to have an ambassador, let Bumula now remain with the executive seat,’’ argues Luketelo.

However, Masai maintains that he is best suited to replace his boss after working under him for close to three years.

“I have enough experience to steer this branch to greater heights if given chance on 28th when we shall have a by election,’’ said Masai.

Despite the two contenders selling their manifesto’s to teachers,it seems regional balance will be a key factor in the coming by election.

A section of teachers feels that Bumula people have been in cold for long and it was their time to lead the giant union while others  feel that since the seat belonged to Kanduyi it should remain intact until 2026 during the union general election
