More reactions on Ruto’s CS nominees

More reactions to President William Ruto’s second batch of CS nominees are expected today after he nominated four leaders from the opposition party ODM to his broad-based government.

In the new nominations announced on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Ruto handed the powerful Ministry of Treasury and National Planning to nominated MP John Mbadi while minority whip in parliament Opiyo Wandayi was handed the energy docket.

Former governors Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya have bounced back in various capacities should they be cleared by the National Assembly.

The nomination of purely ODM leaders to the cabinet has left a sour taste in the opposition coalition, with leaders of affiliate parties in the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya promising to fight on.

Thursday protests expected

Demonstrations are expected to rock parts of the country in light of the recent developments in President Ruto’s appointments that seem to have benefited the political class.

Also, the youthful protesters are expected to pour into Nairobi streets if their online activism rants are anything to go by.

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, protests were underwhelming following a heavy deployment of security officers in the city’s Central Business District and around the roads leading into the nation’s major airport Jomo Kenyata International Airport (JKIA).

Protesters were repulsed by the heavy contingent of police officers as well as the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) presence.
