Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has named a provisional squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Chad, scheduled for June 7 and June 10, 2025, in Morocco.

The squad, which was released on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, features the surprise return of former captain Victor Wanyama. The midfielder, who currently plays for Dunfermline Athletic FC in Scotland, had stepped away from international football in 2021 but is now back in the fold as Kenya ramps up preparations for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Veteran leads comeback

McCarthy has called up a mix of experienced names and rising talent. Notably, Kenneth Nyamwaya of Bidco United and Swaleh Pamba of Bandari FC have received their first-ever senior team call-ups.

This marks McCarthy’s second training camp since taking charge, and players are expected to report to camp on Friday, June 2, ahead of the two fixtures.

In goal, McCarthy has selected Faruk Shikhalo (Bandari FC), Sepstianos Wekesa (Kariobangi Sharks), and Brian Bwire (Polokwane City FC). The defensive lineup includes Siraj Mohammed, Abud Omar, Daniel Sakari, Lewis Bandi, Alphonce Omija, and Brian Mandela, along with newcomers Pamba and Nyamwaya.

The midfield will be marshaled by Wanyama and includes Alpha Onyango, Timothy Ouma, Brian Musa, Ben Stanley Omondi, Boniface Muchiri, Mohammed Bajaber, David Sakwa, James Kinyanjui, Adam Wilson, and William Lenkupae.

Leading the line in attack are Moses Shumah (Kakamega Homeboyz), Beja Nyamawi (Bandari FC), and Emmanuel Osoro (FC Talanta).

The Morocco friendlies will provide a crucial test for McCarthy’s side as they fine-tune tactics and chemistry ahead of the continental showpiece later this year.
