Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Ruto’s Nairobi County tour

President William Ruto is set to continue with his extensive tour of Nairobi County with several project launches set for Mathare and Ruaraka constituencies where the head of state will pitch camp today.

Ruto is set to launch the construction of an 800-bed dormitory at St Teresa’s Secondary School in Mathare, break ground for the construction of 12 classrooms at Mabatini Primary School and inspect the construction of classrooms at Mathare Mixed Secondary School.

He is also expected to launch the construction of a TVET and last-mile electricity programme, tour affordable housing in Mathare, and inspect the construction of the modern gateway market in the Ruaraka constituency.

This comes after Ruto on Monday, March 10, 2025, toured the Kamukunji constituency where he commissioned the Kamukunji Technical Vocational College, launched the new Eastleigh Market and inspected the construction of the Shauri Moyo affordable housing programme.

Ruto equally launched the Nairobi Rivers Engineering Works Project at Kamukunji Grounds before holding a massive public rally at the same venue.

Speaking during the tour, Ruto popularised his recent working agreement with ODM party leader Raila Odinga, noting that it was aimed to unite all Kenyans and bring an end to tribalism.

“I am here with all leaders of Nairobi, and we have unanimously agreed to work together. With utmost respect, we have declared that we do not want hatred, tribalism, or division anymore. Our goal is to cooperate, remain united, and build a strong and prosperous nation that serves the interests of all Kenyans,” the president stated.

Moderate rainfall in several areas

The meteorological department has issued an advisory for Kenyans to expect moderate rainfall in various parts of the country since the wet weather began a few days ago.

In the Nairobi region, the meteorological department has predicted that the rains may pound a few areas in the morning, while the afternoon will see several other areas experience rainfall.

The weatherman equally predicts that the temperatures in the Nairobi region will range from a high of 30 degrees Celsius to a low of 6 degrees Celsius.

Other areas expected to have rainfall in the afternoon are Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties.

The coast region will, however, experience sunny intervals with few areas likely to have rainfall in the afternoon.

This comes after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned people living near water bodies to vacate the areas due to flooding risks.

“The heightened risk of flooding in multiple counties due to heavy rainfall calls for increased safety measures and preparedness,” Murkomen said in a statement.
