Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Ali Hassan Joho has pledged unwavering support for President William Ruto’s leadership ,not only through the 2027 General Election but also looking ahead to 2032.

Speaking during a historic meeting with coastal leaders at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Joho vowed to stand with President Ruto throughout his current term and beyond.

“We assure President William Ruto of our utmost support. We will support Ruto from now to 2027, 2032 and going forward,” Joho said. He added that “wakipungua huko sisi tuko kujaza”, translating, if they go, we are here to fill the gap. “This is a commitment till 2032. Kama ni mbaya wacha iwe mbaya,” he emphasized, reassuring the President of continued backing regardless of challenges.

The meeting, attended by leaders from Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Tana River, and Taita Taveta counties, was marked by a rare display of unity. Joho noted it was “the first time coastal leaders sit like this and speak in unity.”

Vision for 2032

The pledge came a day after leaders from the North Rift region endorsed Joho for the presidency in 2032. Speaking at a fundraiser in Tangulbei, Tiaty Constituency, area MP William Kamket praised Joho as a “visionary leader with a proven track record in public service and national unity.”

Kamket said, “We believe he has what it takes to take over from President Ruto and lead Kenya forward.”

Early mobilization

This endorsement from a region often seen as President Ruto’s stronghold signals shifting political alliances. Leaders urged Joho’s party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), to start groundwork for the 2032 campaign early, highlighting the importance of national outreach.

Kacheliba MP Titus Lotee praised Joho’s inclusive leadership and his ability to bridge ethnic and political divides.

This development comes as political realignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election. Coastal and North Rift leaders’ endorsements reflect shifting alliances and strategic positioning as parties and politicians prepare for the coming polls.

The support for Joho, while significant, is part of a broader landscape of political maneuvering as various leaders and regions seek to consolidate influence and build momentum ahead of Kenya’s next electoral cycle.
