The National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah has stressed the importance of a national dialogue to resolve key issues in the country.

Ichung’wah, a vocal Kenya Kwanza legislator, cited the example of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) which was a product between engagement between Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Kwanza coalitions after the 2022 general elections.

“Witnessed the signing of the IEBC Amendment Bill. This bill initiates the formation of a nine-member selection panel tasked with advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, and nominating commissioners to the IEBC within a 90-day timeframe.

“As a product of the NADCO dialogue process, this bill exemplifies the power of negotiation and discussion in resolving tensions and moving our country forward. It reaffirms that through dialogue, no challenge is insurmountable, and our differences can lead to constructive solutions.

“This milestone is a reminder of our collective strength and commitment to building a better Kenya,” the Kikuyu Member of Parliament said in a post on his X handle.

At the KICC, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga was also in attendance and the opposition figure stressed the need to have a national dialogue.

“I am happy to confirm that we have had consultations and have agreed that a dialogue is the way forward out of the crisis that we are facing in the country.

“We have agreed that we give people an opportunity to be heard, to express themselves so that a lasting solution can be found.

In the interest of making sure we live within our means; all participants will bear their attendance costs. This is a result of consultations we have held this morning,” Raila said.
