Ruto insists Kiambu tour is not politically motivated

President William Ruto has maintained that his tour of the Mt Kenya region is not politically motivated as his detractors claim.
Speaking in Lari, Kiambu County on Saturday, April 5, 2025, the president assured residents that his trip is purely developmental. He particularly stated that his focus is on the contruction of roads for kiambu residents, boosting agriculture, and supply of electricity for residents.
The president who reiterated his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, dived into his plans for the county stating that so far, the government has disbursed Ksh3.9 billion for the construction of roads. He equally announced plans to complete stalling road projects in the county.
At the same time, Ruto expressed that the country’s economy was significantly transforming on a positive trajectory, with the inflation rate recording a lower record of 3.5 from 9.6. He additionally encouraged his detractors to focus on service delivery instead of politicking.

“Nimefika hapa leo kwa sababu ya mambo ya maendeleo ya Kiambu County, na nataka tukubaliane leo hatujakuja siasa, tumekuja maendeleo, nataka niwaombe na ndugu zangu wa Kiambu, kuna wakati wa siasa tutafanya siasa, leo wacha tuongee mambo ya wananchi hawa, mambo ya maendeleo ya Kiambu County. Nimekuja kwa sababu tulikubaliana mambo matatu ya muhimu, ya kwanza tulikubaliana tujenge mambo ya barabara Kiambu County, na hapa tuko na bara bara nyingi ambazo zinaendelea na nimekuja na PS wangu wa mambo ya barabara, nataka tukubaliane wiki hii tumetoa pesa billioni tatu na laki tisa ya Kiambu County,” he said.
“Pale nyuma tulikua na matatizo ya mambo ya uchumi, tumetengeneza uchumi, ile dollar ilikua 165 imeteremka chini iko 128/129, ile inflation ilikua 9.6 sasa imekua 3.5 sasa uchumi ya Kenya iko imara, kwa hivo tumepata pesa ya kuendesha barabara zetu kwa sababu barabara ni muhimu. Barabara zote zilikua zimekwama sasa tuzikamue tuikamilishe, na skizeni watu wa Kiambu, mbali na Ksh3.9 billion tunatoa this week, vile vile tuko na billlioni ingine tisa ambayo tunataka kutumia for the next eight months hizi barabara zetu zote ambazo tulianzisha tuzikamilishe,” he added.
Loosely translates to;
“I am here today because of developmental projects in Kiambu County and I want us to agree that we did not come for politics, we have come for development, I want to assure my people of Kiambu that when its time for politics we will do politics, today let us focus on the issues of citizens and the development of Kiambu County. I have come so that we agree on three important things, the first is building roads in Kiambu County, we have several roads that are continuing to be constructed and today I have come with my PS for Roads, I want us to agree, this week we have disbursed Ksh3.9 billion for the roads projects in Kiambu County.”

“Before we had challenges with our economy, as at now we have rebuild our economy, and the dollar stands at 128/129 from 165, inflation is now at 3.5 from 9.6. Our eceonomy has been revived and therefore we now have funds for construction of roads. We will rebuild and continue all stalled road projects in Kiambu. Apart from the Ksh3.9 billion we will disburse another Ksh9 billion for the next eight months to ensure that all stalled road projects are completed.”
Further, the president shared that some key projects his administration had undertaken in the region, including the launch of markets that will help boost agricultural trade in the region. In particular, he said his administration had constructed 18 markets in the county to help farmers sell their produce.
“Millioni mia tano tumetolea Kiambu sambaza, tuekee kila mtu stima, tulikubaliana kiambu ni county ya biashara na Kilimo, sasa hapa tuko na soko kumi na nane zinajengwa Kiambu County na tunataka kukubaliana, hizo soko sote ni kwa sababu zinasaidia kwa kilimo.“
