Football Kenya Federation Premier League sides AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia posted positive results in their friendly matches on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Gor Mahia managed a 4-1 win over Mwatate United with goals from Benson Omala, Sylvestre Owino, Kevin Juma, and Lloyd Kavuchi, the scorers for the Premier League giants. The National Super League side scored their only goal through Mark Kwasira.

This is the second game in which Juma, who was signed from Nzoia Sugar in the current transfer window, scored after finding the back of the net in their match against Ulinzi Stars before the international break.

Meanwhile, at Kawangware Hope Centre, AFC Leopards, who have not managed a win in their two opening games in the 2023/24 season, were 3-0 winners over Administration Police.

Brian Yakhama and Jaffery Owiti scored the friendly goals for AFC Leopards, with the former bagging a brace after coming on as a second-half starter.

Coach Tom Juma, who has come under pressure even before the season picks up full speed, fielded different line-ups for both halves, but it was the second starting XI that gave the most by ensuring the win was registered.

Levis Opiyo, Washington Munene, Kevin Kimani, Cliff Nyakeya, and Clifton Miheso are the most experienced players who formed the starting line-up in the first half. The squad also had Boniface Munyendo, Giovanni Lukhumwa, Mahiga Vincent, Lwangu Emmanuel, and Bakari Randy.

For the second starting XI, Juma picked up Maxwel Mulili, Lauren James, Ronald Shichenje, Gedion Were, Kaycie Odhiambo, Shawn Oloo, Hassan Beja, Luke Namanda, Victor Otieno, Yakhama, and Owiti.

Tusker’s slim win

Apart from AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, Tusker were also in friendly action against NSL side Darajani Gogo. The former Premier League champions were 1-0 winners courtesy of a goal scored by Joseph Mwangi, a new signing who is showing signs of a promising future with the Brewers given how he has performed so far.

Both Gor Mahia and Tusker have had a lukewarm campaign so far, as they have won and drawn in two games, while Ingwe have not picked up any wins. On four points each, Gor and Tusker are fourth and fifth, respectively, while Ingwe are a distant 15th going into matchday three.
