Paris showdown: Cherotich, Yego, Chepchirchir lead Kenya’s charge in Diamond League

The 2025 Diamond League makes its much-anticipated stop in Paris this Friday, June 20,2025 with a strong Kenyan contingent set to light up the Charléty Stadium.
Nine Kenyan stars are on the start list, headlined by the rising steeplechase sensation Faith Cherotich, javelin veteran Julius Yego, and middle-distance ace Nelly Chepchirchir.
Cherotich eyes hat-trick
All eyes will be on Faith Cherotich as she takes to the track in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at 10:23 PM EAT, seeking her third Diamond League victory of the season.
With Winfred Yavi absents, Cherotich will face stiff competition from Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai, who is back in form after her win in Hengelo.

Cherotich is also gunning to reclaim the world lead time, currently held by compatriot Doris Lemngole (8:58.15). Caren Chebet will serve as pacemaker for the event.
1500m duel
In the night’s final event at 11:50 PM EAT, Nelly Chepchirchir and Susan Ejore will take on a stacked field in the women’s 1500m.
Chepchirchir, already with wins in Doha and Rabat, is one of the top contenders, while Ejore looks to bounce back from a fifth-place finish in Rome.
They’ll be up against Britain’s Jemma Reekie and Georgia Bell, who upset Mary Moraa last weekend in Stockholm, as well as Ethiopia’s Birke Haylom.
2015 world javelin champion Julius Yego will carry Kenyan hopes in the field events. Yego, fresh off a season-best 83.08m at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, will aim to inch closer to qualification for the World Championships in Tokyo.
In the men’s 800m, Wycliffe Kinyamal returns after a tough outing in Stockholm.
The double Commonwealth champion will need to hold off home favorite Gabriel Tual, along with Nicholas Kiplangat, Josh Hoey, and Slimane Moula.
Depth across distances
Kenya’s presence will also be felt in the men’s 1500m and 5000m.
Abel Kipsang, Phanuel Kipkosgei, and Festus Lagat are set to feature in the 1500m, while Jacob Krop takes on a deep field in the 5000m final.
The Meeting de Paris promises thrilling action, and Kenyan athletes are poised to leave their mark in yet another memorable Diamond League night.
