Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has questioned Ksh500,000, the amount allocated for the Mashujaa Day celebrations in his county.

Speaking at Kwanza Girl’s grounds when he graced the 59th edition of Mashujaa Day celebrations, Natembeya said spending half a million shillings is unrealistic and unacceptable.

“In the national government where I served, a DC is given Ksh100,000. In fact, I think it has been reduced for national celebrations because you just have to invite people to come, listen to your speech and go home,” Natembeya said.

The first-term Governor said evidence of prudent use of the money was not seen in the event.

“I am wondering how the money was used because the people who attended this celebration were not served with either water or soda,” he stated.

Natembeya said he is going to ask for accountability for the money.

“The committee must account for how the money was spent in this half-a-day event. Ksh500,000 can pay school fees for several needy students,” Natembeya added.

He also warned Ward Administrators who call Sub County Administrators and other senior government officers by their first names.

“We want our people to feel the presence of our government. My officers, Sub County Administrators, and Ward Administrators will have to be disciplined; the habit where a Ward Administrator calls a Sub County administrator by their first name…; that nonsense must stop, it is either sir or madam, sub County administrator is not your in-law,” he warned.

The tough-talking Governor said maintaining professional social distancing and respecting seniors is good for service delivery.

“Somebody should not just enter a CEC’s or Chief Officer’s office, and start talking that I am a ward Administrator and I am in a hurry, where are you hurrying to? He posed.
