A female candidate has joined the Kiharu parliamentary seat race, eyeing to become the first female legislator for this constituency.
Judy Makira, will be flexing her muscles against the incumbent Ndindi Nyoro and Karanja Mburu who is also eyeing the seat.
“I would like to become the first Member of Parliament for Kiharu and bring the much desired change in leadership,” he said.
Makira has been going round in the grassroots level while selling her agenda on advocacy for women and youth empowerment, which she hopes shall help her clinch the seat.
Among the projects she has been undertaking include; donating dairy goats to the needy families, mentorship for the girls in school and donating sanitary pads while organizing training sessions for the youth through the Ajira program.
According to Makira she decided to vie for the seat after realizing that there are gaps in Kiharu leadership, and believes she is the only one who can fill them.
Makira has chosen Usawa Kwa Wote party owned by Mwangi Wa Iria to vie for the seat, though she hinted of a change which she shall declare come January next year.
She is currently a lecturer at the Embu University and also doubles as the vice chair of Murang’a municipal board.
Despite this being the first time she is venturing into politics, she is hopeful of capturing the seat and implement her vision for Kiharu residents.
“I decided not to sit and wait for nominations from any party, but I want to go to the ground and battle out with my male competitors,” she said.
She has urged other women to follow suit and vie for political seats as they have equal capacity just like the male counterparts.
Makira was born in Kahithe village in Murarandia, Kiharu possess a master’s degree in education.
